It was one of the most wonderful summer breaks that I can remember, when we as a family drove around Malaysia enjoying the sights of the homeland, cherishing every moment while we showed the children this and that and tirelessly answered the whys and whats. It was lovely – and sad too because it was probably the last holiday we had together as a family. But what is also memorable about this particlular holiday was that as a family, we all fell in love with the singing sensation of that time – Raihan.
Instead of the usual evergreens or the children’s Boyzone or rap music, we were all wrapped in silence as we enjoyed the soothing tunes of Raihan. The tape was played again and again and before we knew it, the children were reciting Sifat 20 and knew the names of the prophets by heart. And for this, I humbly thank Raihan for a wonderful way of making their way to my children’s hearts and minds in just a matter of days, instilling in them what would have taken me years to do. This ritual we continued in our drives around the UK during the weekends. And everytime we listened to Raihan, we also remembered our wonderful summer break together.
Raihan’s Sifat 20 transported me back to my childhood days, with memories of Mak reciting to us the 20 qualities of God as we drifted to the land of Nod. I never got to anywhere past fifteen. It was the same with all the names of the prophets. It would have helped had Mak sang to us, the way she did the syairs.
When the world famous nasyid group made their first performance in London, I made sure that we were right there in the front row. And what a sensation, what a performance! I missed their second and third concert here, but nothing can keep me away from the Islam Expo at Alexander Palace this weekend, where Raihan is performing on the opening night - 6th July. Cik Am sms’ed and confirmed that Yes, Raihan will be performing in London before going to Toronto on the 8th and then to Trinidad and Tobago on 10th July. That’s the way to go....World!!! (or is that someone else?)
Am a little sad that Nazrey Johaney, the lead singer has left but a warm wlecome to Nordin Jaafar who will be joining the group during their tour.
Now, don’t say I didn’t give advance warning of Raihan’s performance in London!

ohh..yes kak teh, malaysians tak byk yg appreciate Raihan, mostly Rabbani yg dapat byk coverage. i personally prefer Raihan nie because their concept lagi ala world skit. latest album siap ader rap collaboration lagie...kalau concert nasyid kat m'sia malu ler kak teh..seciput jer yg dtg..tapi kalau concert lain toksah criter laaa.. dgn Raihan juga la mas hafal doa after reading quran..they make it into a lovely tune..
When Raihan first made its mark over 10 years ago, I was wondering what was all the ga-ga over the nasyid group - when the usual nasyid was the usual drab, hand in palm, goyang ke kiri, goyang ke kanan.
My kids learnt many things about Islam through Raihan's songs the way your kids did. They hafal the Asma'ul Husna, Sifat 20, 25 Rasul etc.
Despite the emergence of other nasyid groups - I never did like anyone of them. Raihan has always been, and always be my choice :-)
Enjoy the show Kak Teh :-)
I always felt that Raihan have a lot of class in the way they serenade, making Islam sound extremely beautiful. Their nasyid is very lovely indeed - took it to a whole higher level.
i love raihan compared to the others nasyid "band". the only nasyid group yg i collect their albums. they are a class above the rest.
I learn something new from you again. He he.
uBa, what a pity! May be because I have been away too long. I longfor sesations like this. and I have no doubt abt raihan's input in children's and even our religious awareness.
MA - the keyword is fun. That is how learning shd be, kan?
Blabs - oh yes, there is no doubt abt that. I was amazed duringthe first concert here - when raihan appeared - there was a hush in the big hall - it was an international audience - and we cld see and feel the effect of Raihan on them.
lara - wihtout fail, my trip back to malaysia will be with one Raihan CD!
Jane, what did i say? or what did i say right? want to come with me on 6th in the evening?
enjoy the concert kak teh..
memang raihan is a group memang banyak berjasa kepada ibu n anak anak.. this entry makes me want to order kaset raihan..*thinking of my next victim* heheh
memang group ni patut dibangga..
simah...buat apa kaset, CD or DVD lebih canggih! nak yang berotograf tak?
hmmm- ..another way of spamming?
Din - kesian kak teh dengarabt yr boil. and tempat tu pulak tu...nak duduk, tidork, bangun, uh uh - pun susah, kan?
abt raihan - yes - good management.
heheh awat? kak teh nak sponsor ka? hahaha lawak ja :0)
oh yes! other nasyid group can never beat raihan!
ingatak kak teh kita dok pekik2 kat raihan concert macam tengok Bon Jovi! muahahah.. i wish i could see them perform again! i love their songs. very soothing.
simah, haaaa...we will see abt that.
btb, tak pa, tak dak sapa yang nak kacau kak teh ni dah.
mama rock - very true!
kak lady - baru2 ni ada juga nasyid munawarah datang - tapi kak teh tak pernah pulak dengar nasyid depa.
maknenek, how can i forget that evening!! It was because of Raihan that we met, right? lepas tu terus ke Bombay Dreams pulak!
Hi kak teh,
first time here.. but frequent visitor to MA, BTB and bro id's. BUT definitely will visit here as often possible... just to look at the chocs hehehe.. lucky thing somebody gave me choc yesterday :).
Yes yes, Raihan was the first nasyid group that made an impact on me and my children. We listened to the tape in the car over and over and over again back in those days. Now we have added other collections (I Look I See by Yusuf Islam is another favourite) but Raihan has a special place ... because it was the first!
You ought to be envied Kak Teh, you know them all!! But you are as famous a them, no?
konsep nasyid Raihan lebih 'world', sebab tu orang luar boleh terima dan hargai depa... tak pernah berkesempatan tgk konsert depa lagi :)
~alinlai~
meen, thanks for visiting my humble blog.
Queen, am hoping to get new ones too. and err, famous??
ailin, may be one day they will have a concert there.
alinlai, it is quite an experience to hear them live. I was mesmerised the first time.
KT, please kirim salam kat depa. Theirs is the only CD that I buy in Msia.
Reminds me to get a CD of Raihan before we leave for UK.
Raihan antara yg boleh diterima, yg lain tu macam tak kena dgn expectation kita ( bukan semua ).arrangement music pun ok compared to others yg kdg2 macam pop la pulak..
Sokong, raihan is waaay above the rest. They stay true to their mission - to do da'awah through moderate 'entertainment'.
Glad that they added dikir zikir in their latest album - after having english, rap, mandarin and urdu songsin their previous albums.
Salute to Nazrey - he decided to leave to concentrate on his da'awah mission.
The song in your blog is curiously addictive. Haha.
Great blog btw!
salam ukhuwahfillah...
