Al Fatehah kepada Kak Endon

Posted by Picasa

Datin Seri Paduka Endon Mahmood, beloved wife of our Prime Minister, or more popularly known as Kak Endon, left us this morning, at 7.55 Malaysian time in this holy month of Ramadan. Al Fatehah dan semoga Allah tempatkan rohnya di samping orang-orang yang beriman. And our thoughts are with you Pak Lah, during this very difficult time.

I have only met Kak Endon once during the launch of Jendela Batik fashion at the Dorchester in London last year. I felt very, very honoured when told that she had requested my presence there. The numerous times that I have covered our Prime Minister's visit to London, Kak Endon, for obvious reasons had not been able to be present. And for that reason, I have never had the chance to know her the way I did Tun Dr Siti Hasmah. Yet, I felt a bond with her, not only because she is our prime minister's wife, but also because of her passion for the kebaya nyonya. In my own small way, I too love the kebaya and hope that it will never be out of fashion. And when Kak Endon celebrated the kebaya, she revived a part of our cultural heritage. She will forever be remembered for this.

The Big C has taken her away. And I feel a loss. The country has lost its First Lady, our beloved Pak Lah has lost his wife.

Al Fatehah

Al fatehah & takziah to the first family. Heard about it early this morning thru SMS on my husband's phone. She lost the battle in the end, but From Allah we come, to Him we return.

Kak Teh,
I'm just as moved and sad with her demised. Mom called up asking me to take the day off from work so that we could all go and pay our last respect for her, but *sigh* I just cannot afford that.
My prayers are for our beloved Pak Lah too, may he be strong in this difficult time for him and his family....

Al-fatihah untuk arwah dan takziah to Pak Lah and family. It is difficult for Pak Lah because they were very loving couple. He now lost two very dear people in his life, his mother and his wife. Prayers to him as well.

KT, I'm also very sad to hear the news. Like you, I've blogged about it but unlike you, I've never had the chance to meet her.

Maybe because she was the symbol of humility.
Maybe because she went about with a faint smile.
Maybe because we know that the faint smile was her way to suppress the pain.
Maybe because she suppressed the pain to give us the confidence that everything was OK, nothing to worry about, the country is in good hands, her husband shouldn't be worried about her, and therefore why should we.
Maybe because we didn't see her enough on tv the way we do of Datin Sri going about in expensive clothes gigling away as if a Hollywood star who got nominated.
Maybe because she was the symbol of an ordinary housewife who dressed simple.
Maybe because I only heard her once in a speech about batik for the world.
Maybe because she was a woman who did her best as a wife despite the pain.
Maybe because she was not a typical Datin Sri.
I have never met her
nor spoke to her
but here I am
in the middle of South China Sea
rain slashing
waves pounding
thinking of
Datin Sri Endon.

Good bye, ma'am.

Kak Teh,

Cherish all the memory that you had with her. I'm glad you had that opportunity to meet up with her and had your picture taken with her. :)

She was a very simple and humble lady who I looked up to as an icon and cancer fighter. She was doing so well...I was shocked when I got the news through my husband's handphone this morning. I have met her few times on a wedding and formal occasion. Always smiling and glowing walking side by side with her husband. Such a loving couple.

BTW, beautifully said Bergen...

AL-FATIHAH.

Even us in Singapore were really surprised when we heard it this morning. She was a picture of humility. I share your loss. Al-fatheha. Semoga rohnya dirahmati Allah swt.

Kak Teh, it is truly an honour to have someone of such status to request your presence...

May Allah swt give her peace.

AlFatihah and takziah to Pak Lah n family. Saw on TV, the clips on her, ada part masa dia n pak lah held hands and suap each other...so sweet sangat......merambu-rambu airmata saya berjurai.......Pak Lah was very devastated when his mother passed away......and now losing his soulmate..........tapi itu ketentuan Allah, kita kena redha.

I spent the whole night reading all Sunday's newspapers yesterday. Came accross your article too. Read another one by Wahti Muhidin, then by Kee Hua Chee, then also by Kalimullah Hassan. The very one thing about arwah is that, dia berkawan tak kenal pangkat dan darjat. It's entirely true that the whole nation griefs with Pak Lah.
Allah SWT bless her soul. Amin

I will remember her as a very courageous and strong woman.

My mom died of the same cause when I was barely 4 yrs old.

Al-Fatihah.
